Happy Friday

I think it's a happy Friday anyway... Weekends are always tricky because while the work week has ended for most, mine is just beginning. On my way home from class today I decided to get off the bus early and stop by a local shop I have been wanting to go to since I saw some of their stuff at a farmers market this past fall. The shop is called: The Octopus and The Fox. They had a mix of new and vintage items, and all that was not vintage was local. It can't get any better than that if you ask me. There are now multiple items on my wanted list; a great vintage dress, a cardigan, a few throw pillows, and a shirt for Carlos. I bought a little tote bag for school which has their adorable logo on it, it fits everything without being oversized!
Do you have any plans for this weekend? Carlos has plans this weekend which means I get to catch up on some reading, bake, and even get ALL the laundry done. Happy Friday everyone!

New Boots

Ecote Sweater Cuff Lace-Up Boot $79

www.urbanoutfitters.com

(Unfortunately they are not on sale online)

All fall and winter I have been looking for two pairs of boots; 1.) tall brown riding boots, and 2.) short black lace up boots, and tonight after beer and pizza, Carlos and I stopped by Urban Outfitters. They had the perfect black lace up boots, and since they were on sale Carlos bought them for me! I can't wait to wear them!!! But until then, it's time to finish a couple readings for tomorrow and a short paper. Have a great night.

Manicures and Homework

Hopefully everyone had a great weekend! I am glad that the weekend is over, I have three days off of work and will be at school. Tonight we had a quick dinner before Carlos had to go to work, and since then I did my nails and read all the readings assigned for my classes tomorrow. I can't explain how much I love Sally Hanson's nail polish strips that you apply to your nails; they dry instantly and they last about two weeks, what else can you ask for? What do you think of the patterned that I picked out?

Books & Libros

Well, the first day of this semester went well, all of my classes (except the last) ended early, and they all seem that have interesting points. I found out that I am in a farming class (anthro. dept.), which my class will be helping small organic farms in our community. But with 18 hours there many books that shall follow...17 books to be specific (luckily I get to use one book for two classes).  Don't get me wrong, I love reading, but not so much when it is 200 pages that are assigned each night... but at least I will be graduating soon.

Tonight: I am going to be reading Lucia, Lucia (I am only on page 24 and I love it); and drink a cup of green tea. I better take advantage of the free time I have tonight, before it will be taken over by Anthropology and History books.

A New Chapter

(Thanks Mom!)

It's time for a new chapter in my life, it might just be the last semester of my undergrad career at UNM! While I am waiting to find out if I have to take an anthropology class and/or another history, I am hoping that I do not. In the mean time, the spring semester starts tomorrow and I am taking 18 hours, so I thought that today I should FINALLY take down the Christmas tree, and clean up a little before my life is consumed by lots and lots of homework.
I have started decorating for Valentine's Day, with two of these wreaths, one which is hanging outside and one in our living room, and I am thinking about making some heart garland (even though Carlos will be anything but excited to see pink hearts hanging around in our house). I am also, trying to think of any new ideas for sewing projects...

P.S. Check out A Beautiful Mess for great sewing basics! I found it very helpful.

Beautiful Reflections

Breath taking tulips on campus
At the end of last month every blogger took time to reflect on the things that happened in 2011. I decided to take my time and I have finally come up with some of the best things that happened last year!

2011
The year started off slow, and quickly became one of the best! The first few months were the coldest and driest months, but it quickly warmed up with Mr. Ortega's favorite sport of baseball. We went to an outstanding number of Isotope (farm league for the Dodgers) games this year. So many we are debating buying season tickets this year. We also went camping twice, which we are also planning on doing much more this year! Between our two camping trips and minor league baseball we spent a few days in Taos, New Mexico for a little league tournament (Carlos's nephew). The summer quickly ended and before we knew it after dating for two and a half years, Carlos and I moved in together! We ended the year spending time together relaxing, something I don't think we do enough together.

As for 2012
We have many aspirations, but nothing proclaimed or written in stone. I would like to add style to our home, since it lacks lots of it! Bring my GPA before I graduate this year. I would also like to get a new job where I can have weekends off! Other than that, I am sure there will be baseball, Carlos is already talking about opening day. Also, I am excited to make many more memories with my family, friends, and of course with Carlos.

Here are a few pictures from 2011.

Finished Product

I bought Mr. Ortega this plain sweatshirt, but it ended up being too small for him, so I decided to keep it and add a few personal touches to it. I got the idea for the elbow patches off of A Beautiful Mess, and I added the ric-rac to the bottom, which was left over from the Christmas stockings that I made us over the holidays. (My boots are from Target, and my jeans are from Forever 21).

New Obsession!

I will be the first to admit that I don't enjoy writing my own blog as much as I love reading other peoples' blog. If I could have only come up with the concept of Blog Lovin' first!! But today when I was just looking around, I found Naomi's blog, one which I found a while ago, but forgot about it. Her daughter is just adorable, and I love her glasses and her style! Check it out!

A Touch of Zig-Zag

Tonight, I was able to have some free time to sew, even though I am not finished with the elbow patches yet, I was able to sew the ric-rac on effortlessly! Might I add without my mom (who I have come to realize may be the only person who reads my blog). So far I love it, and can't wait to wear it!
Have a great night!

P.S. I forgot to mention that I tried to sew the heart shaped elbow patches (inspired by a project on A Beautiful Mess) on via sewing machine, which only resulted in me sewing my sleeves together, which ended in cursing and 10 minutes with the seam ripper. I guess I will wait to attempt that when I have my mom near by.

Today

I will have to admit that today has not been a very productive day. I set my alarm for PM, which meant I woke up with 20 minutes to get ready. If it wasn't for Carlos making me a pot of coffee, I would  have been late to class from stoping and buying coffee. Class went well today, and while I still have not done my readings or my blog post for the class, I have been inspired to make something (finally!). I have a plain gray sweatshirt, and I plan on adding elbow patches, and possible some rick-rack to the bottom. Hopefully I will be able to do so Sunday night. Also, I painted my nail in a faint pink glitter, that has instantly made my night a little more fun! I forgot to add, that I tried a new brownie recipe that was anything but delicious, so it was nice to relax and give myself a manicure. But with a handful of readings ahead of me, I am still dreaming of making a quilt and I came across this blog, where I found that beautiful picture. I think that I need to dedicate a budget for crafts!

Have a great night.

Jamie H.

I know I have been lacking on my post lately, but I have been working nonstop! I am excited to have only two shift this week, and to be focusing on my new class that last only two weeks. The good news about the class, I get to write a blog everyday, about our readings, films, and discussions.

But in the meantime, what sewing project should I try? I want to make a quilt but is that a little too ambitious for just learning how to sew???? I found inspiration here.
